A tour bus transporting Miley Cyrus's crew was involved in a deadly crash outside Richmond, Va., on Friday, killing the driver Bill Douglas.Cyrus, 16, was not on any of the buses, PEOPLE has confirmed. The singer was actually en route to Nashville to spend some time at home before her show on Sunday in Greensboro, N.C. The show is set to go on as scheduled.
"It was one of our tour buses, but not Miley's,” her manager told TMZ. "It was one of our buses that transported our lighting crew."
A statement from the Cyrus family reads, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Bill 'Uncle Bill' Douglas. Members of our tour are like members of our family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family in the midst of this tragedy. He will truly be missed."
The Cyrus entourage was using four buses to transport tour staff to Greensboro, North Carolina for a show on Sunday. At around 8:15am Friday, it ran off the road, hit an embankment and overturned.
Bill Douglas was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation is underway to determine exactly why the bus – part of a four vehicle caravan – drifted off the road and overturned. One person, presumed to be the bus driver, died, while nine other people sustained minor injuries.
The identity of the deceased will be released once next of kin is notified, according to a release from the Virginia state police.
