One of my fondest memories of growing up in Detroit is, the since debunked, Boblo Island Amusement Park. Boblo is an island in the Detroit River, now a marina community, fomerly a small amusement park. When I was young we would take the Boblo Steamer, (which we lovingly referred to as the "Boblo Boat") over at least once a summer. The amusement park opened in 1898 and provided memories for thousands, including my parents and grandparents until it closed on September 30, 1993.
Because of it's proximity to the coaster capital, Cedar Point, poor Boblo Island was often overshadowed by it's newer, hipper, bigger counter part. Despite it's size Boblo Island provided endless nostalgia as seen in these 1982 calendar photos below.
